UHC - Request for alternate format

• Why is it useful:

  • This would help minimize the amount of manual updates made by UHC Benefit Search product development team for approximately 4,000 plan documents with roughly 100 different templates due to year over year benefit content changes.

• Who would benefit from it:

  • UHC Benefit Search product

  • Consumers of UHC medical and prescription drug benefit policies.

    • UHC medical and prescription drug members, providers, and internal UHC employees

• How it should work:

  • Current: UHC materials automation team uses Elixir to run XML against versioning rules to create PDF output for multiple plan documents. These plan documents are stored on a UHC NAS drive to be shared with external (print vendors) and Benefit Search product. Benefit Search product then pulls PDF output from NAS drive and converts to Word format to parse and serve up benefit content to UHC consumers via APIs.

  • Expected: UHC materials automation team will continue to use Elixir to run XML against versioning rules and, in addition to the usual PDF output, Elixir would also provide JSON or XML output of plan benefit content to the UHC Benefit Search product via ECG.
